New Airbase and Clinical Training Centre Opens
With First National Conference on Paediatric and Neo-Natal Aero-Medical Transport.
Already almost fully subscribed NETS UK is holding the first ever open national conference for clinicians wishing to see the development of paediatric and neo-natal aero-medical transfers.
The conference also includes the opening of the NETS UK Airbase and Clinical Training Centre at Sheffield City Heliport. The conference takes place at the adjacent Aston Hotel, Sheffield on 19th May 2011.
Keynote speakers include Dr Andrew Berry, founder of NETS in NSW, Australia and Charles Skeoch of the Scottish Air Ambulance Service.
The purpose of the conference is to identify, from the international experience, the most effective way forward in developing an aero-medical response for new-born and young children. Until now movement of these groups of patients has bee undertaken by land ambulances or regional air ambulances. Given the concentration of paediatric and neonatal services in specialist centres of excellence patients are likely to travel further than before to reach them and in some situations time in reaching these centres can mean the difference between life and death.
'Clinicians have long recognised the need for a major specialist aero-medical inter-hospital transfer service in the country and NETS is strivng to put that in place' said Martin Eede of NETS UK. 'Our service will be available to every part of the NHS who wishes to use and it is vital we are advised by clinicians on the best way to develop this service'
The official opening of the airbase by Dr Andrew Berry of NETS NSW, Australia is in recognition of the inspiration he has been to many UK clinicians who have worked with him in Australia.
NETS UK is a new charity but in staging this major national conference is now seeking public support to enable it to move forward and further develop its education role as well as the aero-medical transport service. Initial support has come from HSBC’s ‘Little Angels’ Appeal.
